Curriculum Map

This is what Ofsted said about our curriculum.

"The school provides an interesting curriculum, which involves pupils in determining some of the topics they study".

"The curriculum and the school’s values underpin provision for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. This is enhanced by a range of trips and visitors to the school and learning about world religions. The impact of its drive for equality of opportunity can be seen in the support for disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs, pupils eligible for the pupil premium and others identified for extra support".

At Ryton‑on‑Dunsmore, we are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum that enables every child to become a confident, independent and inquisitive learner. We nurture a lifelong love of learning and support children in developing a rich understanding of the world - past, present and future.

High‑quality learning is at the heart of our provision. Our teachers draw on strong subject and curriculum knowledge to offer skilled explanation and modelling. Their pedagogical expertise ensures that children are supported to deepen their understanding, make meaningful connections and recall their learning.

Our curriculum is designed to inspire, engage and challenge. Rooted in the National Curriculum, it offers a wide and varied learning experience enriched through creative contexts and shaped by our values‑based learning community. We are committed to developing the whole child - academically, socially and emotionally - so that every learner can thrive.

Our curriculum enables all children to:

  • Become enthusiastic, successful learners who relish challenge, make strong progress and achieve their full potential.
  • Grow into confident individuals who are equipped to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
  • Develop as responsible citizens who contribute positively to their community and wider society.
  • Recognise the value of learning and continue to pursue knowledge, curiosity and personal growth throughout their lives.
  • Apply knowledge in a range of contexts, making meaningful connections across subjects and real‑world experiences.
  • Develop a broad, rich vocabulary and secure conceptual understanding that supports deep thinking and effective communication.
  • Build resilience, embracing challenge and learning from mistakes as part of the learning journey.
  • Become curious, reflective learners who actively seek out, use and build upon new information to deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills.
